Profession: Actress and Singer
Biography: Jennifer Hudson, also known as "J.Hud", first gained national attention as a contestant on "American Idol" in 2004. Her 2006 feature film debut in "Dreamgirls" earned her an Academy Award. In 2008, her eponymous solo debut album won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
As Hudson's star continued her rise, tragedy stuck when her mother, brother, and nephew were brutally murdered by her sister's estranged husband, in October of 2008.
In 2009, she performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl, and resumed her busy career in film, television, recording, and touring. In 2015, she added the Broadway stage to her resume, co-starring in the musical "The Color Purple", winning another Grammy for the cast recording. Starting in 2017, Hudson became a coach on "The Voice UK" for several series, and on the US version twice.
Most recently, she served as executive producer and star of the 2021 Aretha Franklin feature film bio-pic "Respect". Also in 2021, she won a Daytime Emmy Award as executive producer of a children's program "Baby Yaga".
In 2022, she won a Tony Award as one of the producers of Best Musical "A Strange Loop". She also debuted a syndicated daytime talk show in 2022.
