Yesterday, nearly nine in 10 (88%) UK Twitter users heard news about the Royal Baby in their Twitter feeds, making the birth of the third in line to the throne the biggest ever news event recorded on SoMA, YouGov’s social media analysis tool.
News that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, had gone into labour in the early hours of Monday morning pushed Twitter activity about the as-yet unnamed Royal Baby boy to 75% - up from just 24% who heard about the Royal progeny the previous day.
Twitter activity about the Royal Baby went down slightly today, to 81%, but we will be watching closely to see whether the baby’s first public appearance, or the official announcement of the baby’s name, can push Twitter reach about the Prince of Cambridge higher than the record level of 88%.
